Fermilab Today Features RadiaBeam’s Nanotube Cathode Research

The September 22nd edition of Fermilab Today featured our collaboration for the development of carbon nanotube cathodes. Carbon nanotubes cathodes can produce high current yet short pulse electron emission and may have the ability to replace expensive and cumbersome laser-excited photocathodes for next-generation applications. Although the high electric fields in an accelerating gun can cause damage to typical field emission cathodes, the strength and resilience of carbon nanotubes and recent tests point to a bright future for our carbon nanotube cathodes.
