Permanent Magnets

RadiaBeam Technologies provides a full range of permanent magnet (PM) beam optics, including PM dipoles and final focus PMQs.  Our PMQs are based on both the segmented Halbach design and the hybrid design, which uses iron pole pieces for field-shaping.  Permanent magnet beam optics are ideal in applications where compactness and low power consumption are desired. 

Permanent Magnet Dipole

Permanent magnet dipoles are often used for in-vacuum beam manipulation in injection and extraction systems or as an economical way to make fixed-field ring magnets (e.g. the Fermilab recycler). Permanent Magnet Quadrupole

Advanced applications of high-brightness electron beams demand that the beams be focused to extremely small sizes.  Conventional methods for focusing based on electromagnetic quadrupoles do not yield focusing fields that are strong enough to give the short focal lengths needed for these applications, especially in low energy systems afflicted with space-charge effects and excessive energy spread.  RadiaBeam’s PMQ final focus design provides a cost-effective, tunable focusing system for these demanding applications.
