Project Title: SBIR Phase II: A Novel Imaging Device for Infrared and Terahertz Radiation Beams Utilizing Thermochromic Liquid Crystal Materials

The far infrared (FIR) to terahertz (THz) band of the electromagnetic spectrum has recently opened up with the proliferation of sources in this regime. However, the detector systems available on the market for this spectral region are currently expensive and inflexible.

RadiaBeam is developing an inexpensive, robust, broadband imaging detector based on thermochromic liquid crystals, which we call the T-camera. Unlike other detectors that are used in this range, the imaging area will be scalable to very large size at minimal extra cost. The T-camera will initially be marketed for research applications. Configurations for security and non-destructive testing will also be developed.
